Frequently Asked Questions
Are you the photographer who would shoot our wedding?
Yes! I will always be the lead photographer your wedding. Most wedding packages do include a second photographer, though. Some weddings, particularly smaller events, may not need two photographers. I’ll always be honest with you when discussing the need for a second photographer. I’ve done enough weddings to know just when one is absolutely needed and when having a second photographer might be a little overkill.
How far in advance should I book you?
I book out anywhere from 18 months to 2 months before the event date. People are all over the place when it comes to booking their vendors, but it does pay to get the big things out of the way early, particularly photographers, videographers, bands or DJ’s, and of course the venue. One advantage of booking early with me is that your price is based on current prices, not the price of the package when you have your wedding. So you could say it pays to book early!
How much will it cost to hire you?
I start around $4000 for a basic amount of coverage, and go up from there in packages that include things like really stunning leather bound wedding albums, additional hours of coverage, second photographers, and engagement sessions. I’m always happy to create a custom package for you that works within your budget and has everything you’re looking for in a wedding photography package. I’m a firm believer in getting just what you want in a package and not being stuck with a bunch of things you don’t necessarily need.
How can I book you for our wedding?
Navigate over to the contact form! I’m pretty good about getting right back to you. I can then tell you if I’m available for your wedding date and send you additional information on packages and pricing. A $1,500 deposit and signed contract reserves your wedding date against all other inquiries.
Where are you located? Do you travel for weddings?
I’m based just south of Providence, Rhode Island, and regularly find myself in Boston, New Hampshire, Cape Cod, New York, and Connecticut for weddings. I do a handful of weddings outside this area, so I am more than happy to chat with you about your wedding regardless of the location. If I have to take a plane, train or boat to get to your wedding there may be some additional costs involved in getting me to you.
Do we get the photos on disc, DVD, thumb drive?
Digital downloads actually! The disc was great in 2008, and thumb drives work, but the fastest way to deliver you your images is digitally. You’ll get a link as soon as they’re uploaded to my servers. Your images are also always presented online in a proofing gallery that allows you to purchase prints and show off your images to family & friends from afar.
How long does it take for us to see our photos?
Short answer: As soon as I’m finished with them. Long answer: It generally takes about 4 weeks for your images to be ready for viewing. I go through each image and make sure that it’s the best that it can be before sending it up to your proofing gallery. Once the images are uploaded, you can share with friends and family or keep them all to yourself to just enjoy them privately.
Are all the images edited?
Yes! Everything you receive will be edited to the same level that you see on my website and socials.
Do you also shoot video?
I do not. But I’m happy to give you some names of some incredibly talented folks that I love working with!
What camera do you use? Do you bring backup equipment?
I use all Canon mirrorless cameras, and have been shooting Canon since I first picked up an SLR in my teens. I have more backup than I will likely ever need; multiple bodies and overlapping lens focal lengths. Short answer, don’t worry about it - I’ve got it covered.
Do you have another job?
I’m a full-time wedding photographer. And a father of two little dudes.
How long will you be at our wedding?
Generally speaking, I like to be with you from about an hour before you go to see your fiancé, or walk out the door to your ceremony site, until about an hour after open dancing starts. For most couples, that’s 8 hours. I’m always happy to do more or less as your day dictates. We’ll dive into your timeline in depth as it approaches and figure out how many hours work best for you.
Do you shoot family formals?
Of course! I try and make it as easy and smooth as possible. We’ll go over all the details of who is to be photographed with whom before your big day comes. We’ll talk about any family drama and any other considerations so we’re all on the same page when the time comes to take family formals. I may ask for you to jot down a list for me to keep with me on the wedding day so that I don’t miss any important family members. Giving me a list of must-have family & friend images also allows you to have one less thing to remember on your big day!
Do you shoot black and white?
There’s always images in your gallery that are black and white. Some images just beg to be in black and white, I can’t always put my finger on why.
Do you shoot details?
Always! If you spent time, energy, or money on it, I make certain to photograph it!
Does your team require a meal on the wedding day?
While I bring snacks, (and often sneak a bite of a granola bar and a gulp of vitamin water while changing a lens) a hot meal during the long day would be much appreciated. This allows me to stay energized and capture those candid moments without missing a beat. Ideally, I'd prefer to eat at the same time you do for a smooth transition back to photographing after the meal.
What if you get sick & die?
Well, I’ll preface this by saying that I’ve never missed a day of work in 16 years, so I take showing up to work pretty seriously. That being said, I work alongside some really stellar photographers all over New England who wouldn’t hesitate to step in should the worst happen. I’ve stepped in for other photographers in similar situations, and it’s sort of a shoot-first, ask-questions-later kind of thing. We just do that for each other.
Can you hold our date for us?
To make things fair for every couple, it’s first come, first served. If you’ve decided that you would like to hire me to photograph your wedding, you’ll want to act sooner rather than later. If we’ve had a phone or video call, I’ll absolutely reach out to you first if someone else inquires for the same date.
We get nervous when we’re in front of the camera. How will you put us at ease?
If I had a nickel for each time I’ve been told, “I hate having my picture taken,” I’d be retired and living in an oceanside villa. For formals with just the two of you, we move quick and keep things really fun and easy. While there might be some nerves towards the beginning, for the most part, by the time we’re finishing up, we’ve hit such a good stride it all feels really natural and normal.
I pride myself on blending in and keeping things light and quick during your wedding day. I’ll always be nearby if you need something, of course, but for the most part I capture the day as it goes by. You will most likely have the reaction that a lot of our couples do upon seeing the photos…”I didn’t even know you were there!”
Do you photograph anything else besides weddings?
Weddings are my bread and butter, but I also shoot head shots, do work for small business around New England, and photograph other events. See my commercial site for those images.
